KARASEK’S LUCK

The year is 1732 in the Pilsen region. Bernard, the youngest son of the miller, Karásek, learns from his father that he will not inherit any mill. So Bernard leaves his native mill to follow his destiny, which leads him to the Manětín castle to Countess Maria Gabriela Lažanská, the maid Veronika, and the eccentric Hofmeister Jeroným Tichý. Where will Bernard’s honesty and the Countess’s passion for gambling lead?
The leading role of Bernard is played by actor Šimon Bilina, who is currently known from the TV series ZOO and the musical Branický zázrak (Braník Miracle) by Jan Svěrák and Tomáš Klus.

The short Baroque feature film (Karásek’s Luck) was filmed at Manětín Castle in the Pilsen Region. The Countess’s passion for gambling, the Karásek family of millers and the Hofmeister Jeroným Tichý are all historically documented.
The film was shot in three days. The stretcher on which the Countess is carried at the end of the film was made by the castellan of Manětín Castle, Karel Mašek.
